Programme on Saturday, January 18, 2025
11:00 AM – 6:00 PM: Programme Showcase (Stadthalle)
In the Chemnitz Stadthalle, over 60 of the total 160 Capital of Culture projects are presented on three stages. Visitors will gain insights into the planned initiatives. In addition, tourism associations will present the highlights and attractions of the region.
2:00 PM – 6:00 PM: Plates of the World (Rosenhof)
Experience Chemnitz in a culinary way: In Rosenhof, Chemnitz initiatives, associations, and communities invite you to exchange ideas. In addition to tasting snacks, there are stories and music to listen to that represent the diversity of the city.
2:00 PM – 6:00 PM: Stage programme in the city center
Around the Neumarkt, Düsseldorfer Platz and Jakobikirchplatz, three open-air stages will be set up, with changing performances every 30 minutes.
4:00 PM – 5:30 PM: Official Protocol Opening (Opera House)
The ceremonial event at the Opera House is only accessible to invited guests. However, the event will be broadcast live on MDR television.
6 PM: "Pull along" – Symbolic Steam Locomotive Performance
A tribute to the city's industrial past and the maker qualities of the people of Chemnitz: Volunteers pull the historic steam locomotive "Hegel" made by the Chemnitz machine builder Richard Hartmann through the city center.
7:00 PM: Opening show on Brückenstraße
The grand opening show featuring artistic productions, performances, and secret acts marks the official start of the Capital of Culture year.
8:00 PM: Rave (Neumarkt)
Celebrating in the heart of the city: A Capital of Culture Rave featuring local and international DJs creates a festive atmosphere.
8:00 PM: After-Parties in Chemnitz Clubs
Chemnitz clubs (Atomino, Brauclub, Satir, Transit, and Weltecho) open their doors for after-parties where the opening celebrations continue into the night.
Programme on Sunday, January 19, 2025
11:00 AM – 2:00 PM: Stage programme at Neumarkt
Also on Sunday, the entertainment continues on the Neumarkt stage in the city center. Music from Groove In, Soul Studio, and the Jazzcompany Chemnitz will provide entertainment.
12:00 AM – 2:00 PM: European Policy Discussion (Hartmann Factory)
Discussion and conversation about the future of Europe – live and on-site at the Hartmannfabrik. Admission is free. Registration is requested. Click here for the event
