And now? - Europe!
Discussion Series: What Can the Capital of Culture Do in Chemnitz? #6
The Capital of Culture has ended – long live the Capital of Culture! While Chemnitz is starting its year as Capital of Culture, it has just concluded in Austria and Estonia. At the same time, Oulu in Finland and Trenčín in Slovakia are already preparing to hold the title in the year 2026.
With a look back and a view to the coming years, the program directors from Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024, Chemnitz 2025, and Trenčín 2026 engage in conversation. What practical experiences have they gained in their work, how can European cultural work succeed in politically difficult times, and what challenges, but also opportunities, do the local artists and cultural creators of the various European Capitals of Culture face?
On the panel are Stefan Schmidtke, Managing Director of Programming Chemnitz 2025, Lenka Kuricová, Art Director Trencin 2026 (requested), and Dr. Elisabeth Schweeger, Artistic Managing Director of the European Capital of Culture Bad Ischl - Salzkammergut 2024.
The conversation will take place in English.
We offer a translation for the audience.
