Gran Orquesta de Tango Carambolage: Direktion Jürgen Karthe
The Tango originates from Chemnitz
The orchestra was founded in 2011 in Dresden on the initiative of the renowned bandoneon player Jürgen Karthe. This extraordinary ensemble aims to breathe new life into the original sound of the old Argentine tango. The currently probably unique European lineup with eight bandoneons, ten violins, piano, double bass, tuba, and vocals gives an idea of how energetically the tango must have sounded during its heyday in Buenos Aires.
Did you know that the bandoneon originated in Chemnitz? Here, Carl Friedrich Uhlig developed the German concertina in the 1830s, which evolved into the bandoneon. Over 50,000 instruments from the Ore Mountains were exported to Latin America and continue to shape the tango to this day.
